On July 13, 2006
we had our first trip for the kids on the Marilyn Jean. Our many thanks go to
Captain Tony Santella and his well-organized professional crew along with Tom
Mansuetto, who served as chaperone. Captain Tony started the morning with tips
and information on fishing for fluke in shallow water for the kids that wanted
to learn or were inexperienced. They baited hooks and started to catch fish
after a few drifts. Forty fluke were caught on board for the day. One keeper
and 39 throwbacks. The kids took turns driving the boat with a sharp eye on
each driver from Captain Tony. George the mate also helped the kids. The boat
returned Sheepshead Bay by 2pm. The trip was great for all. Captain Tony was
thanked by all the kids, Kevin, Eric, Jeremy, Du and Gerrold. The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints kids had a wonderful first and lasting
experience.
On July 15th
the Orient Star with Captain Bill Russo was the classroom for some fluke fishing
that produced a number of monsters up to 10 lbs. The biggest fluke were caught
by Tom Caruso Jr., Rich Stiglitz and Bryan Felicia. This was a beautiful day
with many big fish caught around Gardiners Island.
On August 17,
2006 on
the Marilyn Jean out of Sheepshead Bay Federation Director, Frank Mansuetto
organized another trip with Captain Tony and the action was fast and furious.
The action heated up with fluke, bluefish and weakfish being caught. The young
anglers on this trip included Jeff, Axile, Giermo and Aaron.
On September
1, 2006,
the Orient Star, captained by Bill Russo out of Orient Point, became the hosted
for another dozen children with Max and Alex Wallach, Michael Cataldo and the
Felicia brothers Joey, Bryan and Anthony leading the way with Porgies over 3
pounds. Davey Jones and his daughter Trish and Neil Wallach were also present.
Captain Ron Grandinetti gave out many fishing tips and pointers throughout the
day. Again, the federation thanks Captains Bill and Mike Russo for the
wonderful outing they donated.
